On October, 1st, 2024, Rachel joined film composer Dara Taylor, Rachel's Co-Chair of the Recording Academy's Los Angeles Chapter Advocacy Committee, to lead meetings between music creators and members of the House of Representatives in three different locations in Los Angeles. Rachel and Dara encouraged Recording Academy members to share their personal experiences with lawmakers and staff from the offices of Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Brad Sherman and Rep. Julia Brownley, while advocating for the passage of the NO FAKES Act. The NO FAKES Act, if enacted, would federalize a "right of publicity" that would protect against misappropriation of people's name, image, likeness and voice. Music creators are particularly vulnerable to rights of publicity violations. Currently, California state law includes protections for rights of publicity, but many other states in the U.S. do not provide similar state laws, so the NO FAKES Act aims to extend such protections federally throughout the U.S.
The Recording Academy's Music Advocacy Day in local congressional districts follows its GRAMMYs On the Hill event, which took place on Capitol Hill in April. There, Rachel met with Rep. Adam Schiff alongside her clients Alana Da Fonseca and Marc Whitmore, as well as DJ Dani Deahl and Recording Academy Advocacy Manager Montana Miller (pic above).
