Recording Academy Los Angeles Chapter President Julia Michels, who is a GRAMMY winning independent music supervisor for film, has appointed Rachel Stilwell and Dara Taylor as Co-Chairs of the chapter’s Advocacy Committee. Rachel returns as Co-Chair after having served 2023-2024 as Co-Chair with GRAMMY winning jazz vocalist and arranger Sara Gazarek. Rachel is thrilled to be teamed up for 2024-2025 with Dara Taylor, a wildly talented and award-winning composer of music for film and television. Dara serves on the Board of Governors for the Los Angeles Chapter.
Rachel and Dara are now gearing up for the Recording Academy’s upcoming Music Advocacy Day, which will be held in most U.S. congressional districts on October 1.
Music Advocacy Day brings Recording Academy members into meeting with members of the U.S. House of Representatives and United States Senate to advocate for protection and proper valuation of intellectual property created by music professionals. This year’s Music Avocacy Day (formerly called “District Advocate” will bring lawmakers’ attention to protecting creative individuals from misuse of intellectual property with respect to rights related to name, image, likeness and voice. Recording Academy members will also advocate on behalf of artists and their fans, with respect to live event ticketing reform.
Dara and Rachel are proud to be serving as Advocacy Co-Chairs as the Recording Academy’s largest chapter in the nation, serving members in Southern California, Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona. Music Advocacy Day will be taking place in dozens of congressional districts in all four of those states. For those Recording Academy members who have registered for Music Advocacy Day, stay tuned for more information from the Recording Academy about the event, and feel free to reach out to Rachel with questions at rachel@rmslawoffices. For those Recording Academy members in Southern Nevada, please note that the Recording Academy is working on finding an alternate date for the event there within a week of October 1. Rachel will reach out by email or text to Las Vegas- based members in the next week as she hears more from the Recording Academy’s schedulers in Washington DC.
